SCIENCE ON THE ROAD CONDUCTS NEW BUBBLE BLAST PROGRAM

On Tuesday, December 15, Science on the Road conducted a new science outreach program entitled Bubble Blast for approximately 90 second-grade students at Patterson School in Gilbert, Arizona.

The program consisted first of a one-hour presentation for the entire second grade. The presenter, Deron Ash, demonstrated how students could create amazing bubbles using a variety of household items and recycled materials. Science inquiry and experimentation were stressed throughout the program. The presentation also included music segments, comedy and a mini-bubble light show.

The presentation was then followed by hands-on interactive workshops for each second grade class. Students engaged in bubble play, created special bubble wands, measured the size of their bubbles and created bubble art. Nonda Chomokis, Principal of Patterson School, remarked that "this is just the kind of program these students can benefit from."

Cindy Ward, second-grade teacher, added "Wonderful! The students were attentive and involved. Mr. Ash related well to the children. He made everything interesting and exciting! … I will continue to refer to this experience throughout the school year!"

Science on the Road has been conducting science outreach programs since 2002 at schools, libraries, scout programs, and other settings. It has recently relocated to the Phoenix area from Connecticut.
