Arizona Science Outreach

(2nd-5th)

Students get a chance to become real forensic scientists as they extract actual animal bones from sterilized owl pellets to determine the type of prey consumed. They'll get a chance to examine the remains up close and reassemble the pieces to form their own take-home skeleton!

Hands-on Workshops

Owl Pellets (2nd to 5th) : An exciting and intriguing workshop where students extract actual animal bones from owl "leftovers." Skeletal remains are reassembled into a take-home piece of forensic art (30-45 minutes)

Down to the Bone (2nd to 5th) : Students examine a variety of skeletal specimens up close and are challenged to determine the source, function, etc. of each. (20 minutes)

Microscope Station (2nd to 5th) : Students get a chance to learn the basics of using a microscope and are given the task of analyzing and classifying different specimens. (15 minutes)
